Traditional Tibetan Medicine is traditionally called SOWA RIGPA, literally translated as the "Healing Science”. It is an integrated medical approach that is also known as "the Medicine of the Sages". Through genius-mystics, It was developed into a highly refined healing system over hundreds of years. Based on the foundations of thousands of years of indigenous medicines from Himalayan shamanic traditions to Egyptian-Greek medicine, it includes Ayurveda, Siddha, and Chinese Medical approaches Sowa Rigpa is divided into four “main Tantras” or teachings. The “Root Tantra” is the fundamental principles and guiding theory behind the other 3 tantras which are primarily expansions of the first or “Root Tantra”.
The Teacher: Douglas deBecker, who has been practicing Sowa Rigpa for more than 7 years and teaching the Root Tantra for 4 years, also has an extensive background in Naturopathy and Ayurveda-Siddha medicine. He has studied in Tibet and Nepal primarily for external therapies, and through his studies in 7 other countries receiving theoretical and practical training, graduating from Dr Pasang Arya’s TME (Tibetan Medicine Education), and many levels of medical training through Dr Nida’s - Sorig Khang International. Dr Nida certified him to teach Root Tantra and Nejang Yoga through SKI (Sorig Khang International). He currently has a California practice in Grass Valley, and Oregon House where he offers wellness consultations and classes in Sowa Rigpa based on traditional medicine, primarily Sowa Rigpa. He also offers UL Craniosacral Therapy.
The Class: The class will cover basic healing principles that can applied in any kind of healing field. Though resembling Ayurveda more than any other healing method, Sowa Rigpa is different with many unique practices and ideas.
